It’s amazing what learning to make things out of trash can do, especially when those things can solve some very important problems. Your child will leave with greater social awareness, new skills, and a desire to continue making… and making a difference. Besides learning about sustainability and solar technology, each student gains experience in thinking through an idea and making it work. Our goal is to help everyone realize that they have the ability and power to make a difference. All while having fun.
- The Why: We always start with the motivation that comes from understanding the very serious problems that over a half-billion (yes Billion) children and their parents face every day. Specifically those of safe drinking water and affordable fuel for cooking.
- The How: That’s a gloomy picture to face, especially for children. So of course we don’t stop there. We show simple solutions that just about anyone anywhere can accomplish. Solar power can be the source of heat for cooking and purifying water, and we explain how it doesn’t have to be high-tech.
- The Fun: After providing the necessary background, we provide our students with piles of materials. We then challenge the students to work in groups to design and build their own solar cookers and solar water purifiers. The excitement, innovation, and learning that result are simply amazing.
